Western Career College - History

Western Career College was founded in 1967 in Sacramento, California. In 1983, the college was purchased by the Education Corporation of America (EdCOA).

In a continuing pursuit of excellence, WCC has made the decision to pursue regional accreditation by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC). After six years of hard work by faculty, staff, and administration, Western Career College has achieved this goal. The Accrediting Commission of Community and Junior Colleges, in June 2001, granted WCC accreditation for the maximum six-year period allowed. The attainment of regional accreditation is a tremendous accomplishment of which the entire College community is proud.

The Sacramento campus occupies approximately 40,000 square feet of space in three buildings. The campus is near the corner of Watt Ave. and Folsom Blvd., adjacent to Highway 50. Light Rail is across the street at the Manlove Rail Station. In addition, bus routes stop in front of the college’s parking lot.

In 1986, Western Career College opened a second campus in San Leandro, California. This 30,000 square foot campus is located in the Bayfair Mall. It is on the corner of East 14th Street and Fairmont Blvd., near Interstates 580 and 880. A BART Station is one block away from the college.

The third campus of Western Career College was opened in Pleasant Hill, California in 1997. This 18,000 square foot facility occupies a two-story building and an adjacent single-story building on Civic Drive, a short distance from Interstate 680.

All campuses have classrooms and laboratories containing the latest in heath care equipment, administrative offices, computer labs, and attractively decorated and comfortably appointed student unions.

Each campus of the college has a centralized campus library. Each library is equipped with furnishings which provide a comfortable setting in which students can do library research and/or study. They also are equipped with computers which provide Internet access to a wide variety of educational resources. Current library holdings have been chosen to support the Programs taught at the college and include program specific materials as well as other support materials from the health care field and general.
